Got You a Fish-Biscuit!
Season Three Premier: More random thoughts:
1. If you were going to put polar bears in a cage, and make them solve a puzzle to get food, would you label the big red button with a knife and fork? Why? Do polar bears associate food with silverware? Did they teach the bears to use cutlery? Remember Joop, the 105-year-old orangutan from the Hanso Foundation website. He had a huge vocabulary. I think Dharma and Hanso were working on communicating with animals. Perhaps to use them in warfare, or for some other nefarious purpose.
2. Jack is in an aquarium, where they used to keep dolphins and sharks. The room (or tank) he is in, has an intercom in it. At one point, Jack is having a flashback (or we are) to an experience with his father. Jacks snaps out of the flashback and hears his fathers voice repeating the words from the flashback through the intercom. He asks Julie what the deal is with the intercom, and she tells him it hasn't worked in years.
3. If you add this weirdness up with the bird of prey which, on two occasions, called Hurley by name, and The Others' interest in Walt's extrasensory capabilities (which seem to include an ability to summon wild animals)...
My wacky conclusion is that Dharma/Hanso/Others have been studying animal-human communication. This includes non-verbal communication and telepathy. The "intercom" in the shark/dolphin tank would pick up the thoughts of the animals and turn them into human speech. Jack hears his own thoughts on the intercom.
